ecoSUB-Scout series AUVs

We have three pre-configured ecoSUBm5-Scout series vehicles, Scout Lite, Scout and Scout+.  We provide pre-configured options for convenience only, ecoSUB users can define the payloads for any vehicle and make changes to the options below.  We are happy to provide integration work packages for new payloads as long as they meet sensible requirement for size, weight and power consumption.  Contact us at sales@ecosub.uk to discuss further.

Our Scout series of ecoSUB AUVs are focused on survey applications.  Navigation is a key consideration here.  An ecoSUB on its own will only use dead reckoning for navigation, which has inherent error of +/- 10% over distance travelled, which we don't think is good enough for geo-referencing imaging data.  Using Network Localisation will reduce navigation error, typically to +/-5-10m regardless of distance travelled, for some survey applications this will be okay.

For more precision, a micro-DVL can used, when the DVL is in range of the bottom (bottom tracking), the navigational accuracy of the vehicle will be +/-cm's and suitable for most applications.  In deeper water when the vehicle has to travel from the surface (its last GPS fix) to within range of the bottom, Network Localisation can be used to limit the error introduced during the decent (and accent), ecoSUB AUVs can also use behaviours to reach the bottom as quickly and directly as possible.  ecoSUB AUVs also have scope to use RTK correction for their surface position fixes before and after a mission - if this is of interest please let us know via sales@ecosub.uk.

USBL can also be provided with Sonardyne's AvTrak modem and Mini-Ranger, please email us via sales@ecosub.uk for more information.
NEW Power+ Module available from July 2022
Power+ doubles the battery capacity of your ecoSUBm AUV to increase endurance and support higher power payloads. Find out more in the video below:

*** NEW Power+ Module available soon - compatible with all ecoSUBm5 and m25 models ***

ecoSUBm5-Scout Lite

Payload:
  • Marine Sonic Technologies Scout ARC Mk II 900kHz, 1200kHz or 1800kHz Side Scan Sonar
  • Marine Sonic Technologies Sea Scan Echo Altimeter
  • Nano-modem
Our ecoSUBm5-Scout Lite is a low cost solution offering an easy to use AUV platform with a high resolution side scan sonar package with integrated altimeter to maintain target altitude whilst imaging.

The ecoSUBm5-Lite does not include DVL and users are recommended to use Network Localisation for improved navigation, this will provide ~+/-5-10m accuracy for geo-referencing, suitable for course imaging applications.

USBL could be used with this system, particularly useful for seabed imaging in deep water exceeding depth rating of currently available DVL products.

ecoSUBm5-Scout

Payload:
  • Marine Sonic Technologies Scout ARC Mk II 900kHz, 1200kHz or 1800kHz Side Scan Sonar
  • Water Linked DVL A-50-P
  • GoPro camera with 300m rated housing
  • Nano-modem
The addition of a DVL to the ecoSUBm5-Scout enhances the vehicles navigation capability whilst in range of the seafloor (typically 30m with the Water Linked DVL A-50).  The DVL provides data on altitude enabling the vehicle to maintain a fixed height from the seabed when imaging.

Network Localisation can be used alongside DVL to sharpen navigation performance and also to support the vehicle when no bottom lock is not possible, reducing navigation error.

The addition of a 300m rated GoPro camera system allows capture of video or still images in reasonable visibility waters.

ecoSUBm5-Scout+

Payload:
  • Marine Sonic Technologies Scout ARC Mk II 900kHz, 1200kHz or 1800kHz Side Scan Sonar
  • Water Linked DVL A-50-P
  • GoPro camera with 300m rated housing
  • Valeport CT sensor (conductivity & temperature)
  • Nano-modem
The ecoSUBm5-Scout+ benefits from the addition of the Valeport CT sensor for measuring conductivity and temperature to assist in understanding the physical properties of the water column.
